HASTINGS NOT SATISFIED
HASTINGS, March 12. A meeting of about 80 Hastings' business men roundly condemned the Premier’s proposal to make a preliminary loan of £1,500,000 for the restoration of earthquake damage and passed the following resolution: That this meeting of representative citizens of. Hastings resolves that the proposed scheme of finance for the rehabilitation of the devastated area of Hawke’s Bay would be absolutely inadequate in amount and unsatisfactory in operation, and that the scheme propounded in the Financial News of February 30, or a scheme on similar lines, would more likely meet the case, and that a committee be set up to demonstrate to the Government the relative merits of the two schemes. The second scheme is that drawn up by Mr dull, M.P.
