CONSERVATIVES ALOOF

THE INDIAN CONFERENCE A SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT. LONDON, March 10. Political circles were sprprised toPolitical circles were surprised to the Indian committee of the Conservative Party welcoming "Mr Baldwin's decision that the Conservative Party cannot be represented any further at the Round-Table Conference held in Lndia as foreshadowed by the Government." This is the first reference to such a decision which was not disclosed by the committee last week, when members interviewed Mr Baldwin regarding the Indian situation. Lord Lrwin and Mr Gandhi were still engaging in their conversions, which had not then concluded. Air Baldwin did not mention the decision during his Newton-Abbot speech. Excitement prevailed in political circles when the existence of Mr Baldwin's decision became known. The Labourites are of opinion that Mr Baldwin has capitulated to the extremists of his own party and now regards the whole situation in connection with India as changed. It is declared that India will be thrown back on party politics.
