Civil Servants' Contributions It is not generally known that civil servants have received a circular from the Civil Service Commissioner, requesting that their contributions to the Earthquake Relief Fund should be made to the Prime Minister's fund and put through the public accounts. This is being done, it is understood, in Stratford and other parts of Taranaki.

Official Year Book The Stratford Chamber of Commerce last night decided to purchase an Official Year Book for the current year. It is not generally known that the chamber each year purchases this Government publication and places it in the Public Library, where it is available to all who wish to use it. The Year Book contains much that is useful and instructive in relation to the population of the Dominion, and the chamber is deserving of thanks for its action.

"Walked Through the House" On Tuesday afternoon a Regan Street residence is reported to have been entered during the temporary absence of the housewife. On her return she was surprised to learn from a child who was confined to bed through illness that a few minutes previously a strange man had "walked through the house." It is understood that no valuables were missing, but it was evident that the prowler was in the house for no lawful purpose, although there were quite a number of people in the vicinity at the time.

Concert on St. Patrick's Night A National Irish concert will be held at the Town Hall on Tuesday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day). Leading performers from Hawera and other towns will assist the local talent, and a programme of vocal and instrumental items, featuring national music, is being arranged. These concerts in the past have always been most enjoyable, and St. Patrick's Night in 1931 will undoubtedly be no exception. Half the proceeds will be donated to the Earthquake Fund. The following is a list of the performers: Mr. Brian Malone and Mr. Pratt (Hawera), Mr. F. Silver and Miss Blennerhassett and Miss Saunders (Eltham), and local artists; Misses Massey, Grant, Gadsby, Mehrtens, Mvra Wilson, Ethel Newlove; Messrs. P. Coe, Pollock, Bellringer, and Hall. Other items will be givfjn by the Convent School Orchestra, senior pupils, and the Stratford Boys' Band.
