"Speaking as a father and not as a magistrate, I want to tell you that I consider this type of crime so despicable that had I discovered it I should have liked to have had the power to have ordered the perpetrator to be sbot, and I would have been up at dawn to see the sentence carried out," said Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., addressing Cyril Dixon, of Christchurch, on a charge of stealing a suitcase and clothes. A month's imprisonment was ordered, also an extension of probation until accused reaches 21 years of age.
