PUBLICAN'S BOOTH AT A. AND P. CARNIVAL

APPLICATION GRANTED v MEETING OF LICENSING COMMITTEE "Regarding this application by the publican for a booth at the Show Carnival, has the matter been referred to the police?" asked the chairman of the Stratford Licensing Committee, Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., at the quarterly meeting to-day. Mr. N. H. Moss, representing the applicant (Mr. J. Kevin, of the Toko Hotel), replied in the affirmative. Mr. Tate: Tne association, I suppose, are the people who want the booth? Mr. Moss explained that the association had called tenders for the booth and Mr. Kevin's tender had been accepted.

Continuing, Mr. Tate said: "The committee has decided that the application be granted, subject to the papers being in ordeT, but they want to make it clear that while conditional licenses are granted to races and shows, this is taking it a little bit further, and they are not prepared to take conditional licenses further than that. We regard this application from the publican as practically one from the A. and P. Society. We don't want the idea to arise that we are going to grant additional licenses on all occasions and at all times. The hours of opening will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m." The other members of the committee present at the meeting we? 3 Messrs. J. B. Hine, N. R. Cleland, E. Mar fell and W. Hathaway. Other business conducted referred to the transfer of licensesof hotels in the district, and these werfPgranted as follow: — Prom Fred G. Vickers, Club Hotel, Stratford, to Walter Southeran (Mr. Macalister). Prom S. Dunbar, Empire Hotel, Stratford, to William Pellett (Mr. Truby King). From W. P. McMahon, Toko Junction Hotel, to James Kevin (Mr. N. H. Moss).
