An amendment to the Taxation Act providing for a universal tax of 1 per. cent, on all classes of income was announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr. J. W. Jones, in his Budget speech in the Legislature on Thursday night. The impost, which is to be in addition to the regular provincial income tax, is expected to yield two and a-half million dollars. The only exemption will be on incomes of less than 12 dollars a week, and tn° se receiving mothers' pensions, old age pensions, war disability pensions and incomes from operations of farms.
