"GOD IS LOVE"

REPLY TO "PUZZLED" (To the Editor.) Sir 1 was an interested reader of the letter signed "Puzzled," and also ot'j the reply by the Rev. Mr. Skuse, which is sane and helpful. f*l 'Puzzled" would betake himself to a I reverent and careful study of the Holy

Scripture, he will there find all the enlightenment that he needs, from the only reliable and all-sufficient source. The subject is too large to handle in detail in the columns of our daily paper. In His holy word, God ("that cannot lie," Titus 1-2), has accurately foretold and faithfully warned the human race for thousands of years past of events that are occurring in our day, and will continue to i occur in the near future, until the, great and fearful crisis connected with the course of sin will overtake the world on account of the rejection of the world, of the holy, sinless Son of God, Who came to seek and to save the lost." Jew and Gentile united to cast Him out. They spat in His face and crucified Him. "God is love" is a grand and ever blessed truth, but it is not all the truth. The same Epistle of John, Avhich states "God is Love" (John iv., 8), tells us in chapter 1, verse iv., that "God is light." Other scriptures tell with equal plainness that He is "Holy and just," and that "He has appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He hath ordained" (Acts 17-31), and as Mr. Skuse tells us, "Christ will be the Judge." To-day He is a Saviour for all who will believe in Him. When He becomes Judge the door of mercy will be closed and the "day of vengeance wil have come. The son of our King, George V., is now touring in a foreign country. What would the British Government do if the Prince of Wales was grossly insulted and murdered over there? God's day of reckoning with this world about the treatment given to

His only Son is near, at hand, and He says that "He is going to arise and shake terribly the earth" (Isaih 2-21). To-day is the day of His long suffering and grace, when we can confess to Him our sins, and He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to clean us from all unrighteousness" (i. John, 1-9). Now He says, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin averse vii.). The risen son of God commissioned His . disciples to preach forgiveness of sins in His name a mong all nations" (Matt, 28-19; Mark, 16-15; Luke,

24-47). He finished His commission (with the awfully solemn warning, "He that believeth not shall be damned" (Mark, 16-16, Revelations xx., 11-15, and Chapter 217 explain whta this means.) With Mr. Skuse, we again "emphasise the tremendous ji-iport-ance of the need for -prepartions toi meet God." Our Lord Jesus Christ is now the one and only mediator be-* tween God and man" (i. Timothy, 2-5).1 God, through his ambassadors, is "be-1 seeching sinners to be reconciled to Him through the deatti of His Sou" (ii. Corinthians, 5, 18, 19, 20, 21). lam, etc., — A. C. HILL. PS.—Since writing the above I have: read "Puzzled's" second letter, and,! | as a reader and student of Holy Scrip- j Uure for more than'so years, I state' fearlessly that "the Risen Man of Calvary" is the unchallengeable evidence that "God is love." The myriad host of redeemed sinners who have trusted Him as a personal Saviour, will, ■•in the ages to come, be the display of the exceeding riches of God's grace, in His kindness towards us, through Christ Jesus" (Ephesians, 2, 4 to 7). Much more evidence that "Goa is Love" could be given, but space forbids—A.C.H.
