VERY HEAVY RAIN

THUNDERSTORM AT NAPIER CONDITIONS NOW IMPROVED. NAPIER. Feb. 12. A thunderstorm brought up exceptionally heavy rain which lasted for 20 minutes before giving way to a lighter fall. The wind from the south died out and indications are that the rain will not be serious. The sea is more calm. The Railway Department advised this evening that the line between .Napier and Port Ahuriri has now. been repaired and is open for traffic There has been no shock worthy of the name since 4.44 this n.orning, when a few minor shocks were felt. Two men arrested for looting got three months for their trouble. A Wellington man who claimed he had been sent here to organise, was arrested for drunkenness and remanded for a week.
