Mr. and Mrs. T. W. S'njith were passengers by Ibe mail train this morning for Wellington. Mrs. .T. Fredric left fbi.. morning on a holiday tour in the South Island. Misses Helen Coward and Marjorie Cu(field left this morning on a holiday visit to Morriusville. Miss J. Pinlayson left this morning oji return to 'her home a t Dargavillc, after a holiday visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Allen. Mis. Mander, who has been on a visit, to Miss Wilson, S. Mary’s School returned this morning to Auckland.
Miss Hancock, of Palmerston North, left this morning for her home, after a holiday visit to Mr. and Mrs. A. Davies. Mrs. J. P. Ryan left this morning on a combined business and holiday visit to Rotorua and Auckland. With her was her son Jack, who returns to college at Auckland shortly. Mr. A. E. Sayers, of Stratford, received word this morning, of the death of his mother at Eastbourne, I Sussex, England. The late Mrs. Sayers wa s 85 years of age and had just been through two severe operations. Lieutenant-Colonel Burton, who has been appointed field-secretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived in Wellington yesterday morning. He wa s installed by Commissioner Cunningham last evening. Mr. and Mrs. Pat ward are on their retur/i journey from England to New Zealand. Mr. Ward, who is a son of the late Sir Joseph Ward, was married in America a fe months ago. v Accftmpanied by her daughters, Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Kupe, Mrs. M. Power, of New Plymouth, left on Saturday for Otaki, where she will take over a hotel. Mrs. Power ig a sister of Mrs. Branigan, of Stratford. Miss M. Thompson, assistant in the infant department of the Stratford primary school, haying accepted the appointment of infant mistress at Ohura, Miss Doris Callaghan is relieving in her place until a permanent appointment is made. Mr. S. T. S. Martin, of Wellington, intends to contest the Wellington Soiith seat as an Independent candj* date at the general, election. Mr. Martin was until recently a member of the staff of the Wellington Harbour Board. Wellington South, at present is held by Mr. R. McKeen (Labour).
The death occurred at the Stratford Hospital yesterday of Mrs. Isabel Jackson, wife of Mr. James Jackson, of Puniwhakau. She had only been married for about two years; and a wide circle of friends will extend sympathy to Mr. Jackson and other relations.
