Mrs. Glasgow is at present ia Wellington, visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Hogg. Mrs. L. Curtis left for Hastings on Wednesday, to take part in the golf tournament. She was accompanied by Mrs. McDiarmid, of New Plymouth. Miss Molly Ma lone leaves for Napier on Monday. She is to bo the guest of Miss Betty Sproul. Miss Kitty Coleman (Hawera) was tho guest during the week of her cousin, Miss J. Coleman. Miss Caplin (Hawera) was Mrs. Geo. Hall's guest during the week. The result of the Stratford v. Hawera bridge match played at Mrs. Geo. Hall's residence on Saturday was a decided win for the home team.

Tuesday saw quite a number ot Stratford lovers of music wending their way to New Plymouth to hear "Kubelik." Amongst those we saw were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pemn, Miss Lucy Penn, Mr. and Mrs. Jardine, Mr, Kay, Rev. and Mrs. Beale, Miss Wilson and somo of tho senior pupils of St. Mary's, Miss B. Forestie, Miss D, Sladden, Misses Josephesu, Miss B. Stalker, Miss Bartlett, Miss Nash, Mrs. Uniacke, Mrs. Carter, Mr. and Miss Rogers, Mrs. and Miss North, Miss Max Skoglund, Miss Malone, Mr, and Mrs. Amess, Miss Moon, Miss Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. P. The local branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held their monthly meeting last Tuesday at Mrs. A. W. Walker's charming residence, Ngaere. Although there were showers of rain falling: intermittently, it did not prevent the guests wandering through the truly beautiful garden and grounds, which were a glorious siglit with cherry trees in bloom, gay borders, and many other beautiful flowering plants. The natural terraces tended to make the scene a veritable fairyland. Mr. Moss and Mr. Walker were in attendance to answer questions and givo instructions on the growing of plants and pruning. A most delicious tea was given by the Ngaere ladies. Amongst those present were Mrs. Phillips (president), Mrs. W. H. Young (secretary), Mrs. Pitt (treasurer), Mrs. A. D. The "birthday party" of the local branch of the Women's Division Will be held at Mrs. Percy Thomson's residence, Hamlet -Street, on Tuesday, November 11th.

Mrs. Hall had some friends for bridge on Wednesday. Mrs. W. Spence gave a jolly little afternoon party on Wednesday. Those present were Mrs. and Miss Hill. Mrs. Green, Mrs. Malone and Mis;M. The Stratford Mountain Club, apart from'being one of the oldest Alpine clubs in Now Zealand (if not the oldest), appears to be a real live body to-day. At its first official tramp of the season last week-end members experienced all tlie thrills of real Alpine winter sports on the east slopes of Ait. Egmont, tobogganing, glissading, and. ski-ing being indulged in. The ladies who successfully completed the arduous LO-mile course, and who successfully overcame and mastered the skis, were Mesdames A. White and; Lowry, Misses E. McDonald, K. Kempthorue, M.' Whiteside and L. Griffin. A welcome cup ol* tea in the snow follow* d. the party returning via the base line to the new road and Moss' Lookout. A roaring fire at the Stratford House greeted the trampers, members agreeing that the outing was one of Iho best, yet held. The next trip will be to the sign post at N, Egmont on November 2nd.
