THE LAND OF BRAZIL.
3UBsi(m:ir.s lectfhi;. There was a fair attendance at at. Andrew's Hull on Tuesday night, when Mr It. M. (financiers gave a lecture on Brazil, illustrated hy lantern slides. Mr Gillanders is a New Zealander. He is a graduate of the New Zealand Bible Training Institute, and for four years he has been on the staff of the youth American Evangelical Union. Air Gillanders dealt in interesting manner with the land of Brazil, describing its mountains, rivers and fruits, an'd showing what a rich country it was. Naturally, he dealt fully with the wo: k of the mission cu which ho is engaged, and lie gave interesting details of the work among the children of the country, especially in the orphanage founded by .the various churches. The lecturer also throw sonrq light on the recent Brazilian revolution, stating that one of the leaders was a well-known bandit.' There wore, he said, 45 millions of poeple in South America, and of these half were in Brazil. It was a vast country, with great possibilities. If its population' was of a more enterprising nature it would he one ol the best countries in the world, but it was misgoverned, and the people did not seem to have the ability to push Hie country forward.
