STRATFORD MOUNTAIN CLUB.

MEETING HELD AT TOKO. ("Post" Correspondent.) Last night members of the Stratford Mountain Club held an enthu siastic meeting in the Coronation Hall at Toko. Mr. M. Gernhoefer introduced the speakers to those present. Dr. W. P. P. Gordon, the president of the Club, gave an instructive address on first-aid work in connection with mountain climbing. Outlining in case of an accident, the main things were for the one hurt to keep cool as much as possible, and the messenger to make sure of the degree of injury. The best way was to write it down if passing it on, for in most cases tho news became exaggerated by the time the medical men received it. The next tiling was to see that tho injured one was kept warm and given proper food and clothing. At the conclusion of the address Dr. Gordon was heartily applauded. The vice-captain, Mr. Whyte, gave a demonstration on rope work used in mountain work, showing the various knots and holds used in ascending and descending Hie mountain^ Mr. Addis showed those present how to cut ice steps and various uses with the ice axe, and also knapsack equipment. Mr. J. 0. Rowe, the captain of the Club, gave a demonstration on map and compass work, .explaining the different ways to find the north. A sub-committee was set up to assist the Club from Toko. Mr. H. Were and Mr. M. Gernhoefer were elected on the sub-committee, with power to add. Several new members were enrolled during the meeting. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers. In conclusion, the President thanked those present for the support accorded .them, saying the object of the meeting was to get the people together and hoost the Stratford Mountain Club. When the road is finished to the plateau it will be one of the finest sites in New Zealand.
