TO-NIGHT n meeting of. business men will be held for the purpose of discussing ways and means of running" an Empire and New Zealand Goods Week in connection with the forthcoming Show. This would include the general boosting- of British and New Zealand goods, special displays in the shops, etc. Other towns have done it, and the reports to hand indicate that good business has been the result. Rvery effort should be made to induce the public to buy New Zealand-made goods, or at least British-made goods, and the move often the desirability of this is brought home, the better. We have many manufacturing industries in New Zealand, and the articles turned out, in : the majority of instances, have no need to fear comparison with those produced elsewhere. As a result of campaigns instituted from time to time, of Now Zealand (roods have increased considerably, ami if n New Zealand ami Kmpire Week is carried out here, it should have good results for all concerned. NEW INDUSTRIES. ALL will be in hearty agreement with the reninrks of the Hon. E. A. Ransom in regard to the desivabilitv of having as many industries "o possible in New Zealand, and in the Land Laws Amendment Bill provision _ is, made for the disposal of inferior Crown lands, with the intention of encourr>'-"in"- the growing" of the tuns? oil olant and the Irish flux plant, from the latter of which it is hoped to develop a linen industrv. Experts think that parts of the. North Auckland peninsula are suitable ' for growing the tung oil plant, and if this should turn out as expected a valuable industrv will result. Every country is wise in having as many industries _as possible, and every promising avenue in this regard should be explored.
