Mr. W. E. Barnard said the increase in the cast of railway construction work last year had been larkely due to the necessity of finding work for the unemployed- The problem of finding productive work for the unemployed was becoming increasingly difficult- He thought a great deal could, be done in the * direction of land development schemes. Mr. W. J. Poison deprecated exon .railway lines before (omplete investigations had hewn made- He took Mr- Lysnar to task for what he considered to be selfish advocacy of the Najp*et'-Gishome line. Mr. A. E. Ausell submitted that the development value oi railways was now somewhat discounted by the success of motor tractionFINALITY HEAC-HfcO-This Day. Consideration of the Public Works Estimates was continued in Committee of Supply in the House of Representatives after the telegraph office closed this morning, raemhns discussing points on the lines indicated during the debate on the Statement. The estimates were passed. The House rose at 3.15 a-m- till 10.30 this morning.
