INFLUENCE OF THE BIBLE. GOVERNOR-GENERAL' STATES HIS EXPERIENCE. WELLINGTON, This Day. “There is ope little factor which I feel bound to mention in connection with the visits my wife and-1 have been paying various institutions for the relief of the sick, poor, aged and needy in parts of New Zealand,” said the Governor-General, when speaking at the annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. “We have noticed —we could not help noticing it that where real happiness and contentment exists, two factors are to be found. One is the possibility of work —work with the hands instead of idleness—and the other is the power of religion and the presence of the Bible in every room. In those that are destitute of these factors, I do not hesitate to say it, there is a certain amount of quite evident unhappiness and despair present among the inmates. Where these two elements are to he found we have found nothing hut joy ancl hope.”
