CHEMIST’S UNLAWFUL “CURES.” PARIS, July 16. It has again been emphasised in a French court that, however successful his methods may A be, a man must not try to cure his fellow creatures unless he has obtained qualifications as a doctor. A case has just arisen at Chelles, in the Seine-et-Marne Department, where one, Fernand Renner, a chemist, has been prosecuted for having made use of a treatment for tuberculosis invented by himself. During the hearing of the case several witnesses testified that the chemists treatment had done them an immense amount of good. One witness, who when he was demobilised after the war was given a certificate of 100 per, cent, disability as a consumptive, jtold the court that the chemist had completely cured him, and that on reporting his case to the pension authorities he was able to satisfy them so thoroughly that they promptly stopped his pension. The local medical association had claimed £BO damages frem the chemist for illegal competition. But in view of the testimony of those who were highly satisfied with the chemist’s treatment the court awarded the doctors only one franc damages, and fined the chemist 16s Bd.
