RIOT CAUSED OVER JOB
STAMPEDE ON ARRIVAL OF POLICE. MELBOURNE STIR. MELBOURNE, July 2G. Disappointed at their failure to obtain a job at the dental surgery of F. and G. Turner, Swauston Street, City, to-day, 200 boys caused a riot and did considerable damage before being dispersed by police. The boys ans vered a»a advertisement in the morning papers fo r a lad about 15 to mak e himself generally useful. As soon as the surgery doors opened a crowd rushed into the hailway and up the staircase. The manager quickly chose a. boy and told the others the job was lillcd. This roused the auger of the others, and they ycuted their feelings by pulling the drawers from desks and scattering the contents about the door. They also tore up hundreds of i,u,sines,s papers, and strewed the contents of 250 packets of month ■wash crystals down the staircase and in Ino hallway. A chair was smashed to splinters. When the boys sighted the police ther 0 was a stampede, several smaller lads being trampled on. A score or so had cut faces and torn clothes.
