protest Against Petrol Tax. Mr. W. O’Callaghan presided over an attendance of about sixty, at a public; mooting convened by the South. Taranaki Automobile Association and held at It a wont last night. After a lengthy discussion on the pro posed Increase in the petrol taxation the following motion was carried by a large majority; This meeting js of opinion tha tthc proposed taxation of petrol is inequitable and unjust and registers an emphatic protest against its imposition. The following amendment, moved by Mr. A. 11. 310.5 U (Stratford), and seconded by Mr. J. 11. Corrigan, was defeated:; This meeting regrets the necessity for the additional , uelrol lax. but accepts the (lovernmeut’s intimation that it is the only moans of mooting the limmcial crisis, it is however, of the opinion that a deli mite promise of the removal of the tax should he made when the pro hmineial crisis has disappeared.
