DUKE OF YORK’S APPEAL.
LONDON, July 32.
Industrials and representatives or public safety organisations listened lo a stirring appeal yesterday from the Duke of York, when, as patron he opened the National Safety First Congress, which is being held in Liverpool. “I would Tike,” lie said, ‘‘Lo quote what ,seems to me to be two definite indications of the value of this work. Tlie first is that industrial undertakings which have organised accident, prevention campaigns have succeeded ig eliminating many casualties, and the second is that the lowest street accident death rate on the basis of population is among children between the ages of JO to Id—following the? giving of safety first instruction in the schools. “May I ask enfh one of yon to do as much as lies in your power to see that greater recognition and support is forthcoming from your various districts to the work of Iho ‘Safety First .Association.’ ’* The Duke, was cheered) by n large crowd of people in the Liverpool streets when he left to return to London.
