FALS£ ART UNION TICKTEB SOLD. QUEENSLAND GOLDEN CASKET. GETS MONTH IN GAOL Press Association— Copyright AUCKLAND, This Day. "A deliberate swindle which has ■been going on; for months," was how the Magistrate, Mr P. K. Hunt, described the offences of William Thomas Watso»a (41) a plumber who pleaded guilty to eight charges of obtaining £9 19s 6d from persons by falsly representing that certain : tickets were issued by the Queensland Golden Casket Art Union, whidh is conducted by the Queensland Government. The Police said Watson when in Queensland a year ago evidently became conversant with the Golden Casket Lotteries, including the dates of drawing. He induced a printer to print five hundred tickets, which ♦ were similar to the genuine tickets, and had 1 printed in them th e correct dates of the drawing. Although Watson said he profited ' by only £5 the police were convinced the profit was much gerater. Watson pleaded that he was driven to the offences by poverty, following unemployment. One month's imprisonment was the sentence.
