Southampton Murder
PODMORE IN WITNESS BOX MANY POINTED QUESTIONS LONDON, March 7. "Did you kill Messiter?'' was the question put to William Podmorc. "I did not," answered Podmore, who was in the witness box for four hours, of which one and a-half hours was occupied by a searching cross-examination by one of England's most skilful counsel, Sir Thomas Inkskip, besides many pointed questions from the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Hewart. The prisoner is serving sentences already. The evidence alleged incriminating talk by Podmore about the Southampton murder, when in gaol for stealing. Podmore flatly denied the conversations. A verdict is expected to-day.
