DOCTOR SPENDS NIGHT LOST IN BUSH.

Derrick, medical director of Blanket Society, and formerly of Auckland, was unable to return to his lodgings and spent the night jn the open while search parties combed the scrub-covered bills for him

Next morning the searchers found him iu a (Distressed state, and he was removed to hospital at Rotorua after being carried with difficulty by a party of native stretcherbearers, wnp brought him to the road level.

It was by the geatest good for-' tune, that Dr. Derrick was found, fo r he was unable to give any assistance to the searchers, -whose call he had heard more than once during periods of consciousness

The country is very difficult to search ■ owing to the prevalence of low scrub, and a person affected by heart trouble or suffering a fracture of a limb might die for days before being discovered. Dr. Derrick was unconscious when the stretcher party regained the road, and he was hurried to hospital as quickly as possible. He is uow reported to he progressing satisfactorily.
