(Received 10.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. ] A severe earthquake occurred at Flinders Island at 10.45 on Sunday (morning, lasting three minutes. It came from the north-east and shook'j houses, breaking windows, and crack--ingi'n,g walls and cnimneys. The alarmed inhabitants rushed into the streets. ( The steamer Callibou, at the wharf, shook as if her engines were racing. Judging from the experience of the Union Company's steamer Kiwitea, the earthquake had its centre at sea. The captain stated that 'all aboard felt a submarine disturbance. The vessel was about Hhirty miles south-east of Cape Barren. The ship trembled and vibrated from stem to stern for thirty I seconds. it then appeared to lift bodily in the water.
