Two schoolgirl; s Thelma Roley, aged flftten, and Eley Hamilton, aged fifteen, and Eley Hamilton, surf at Thixroul on the South coast. Two others in the same party were rescued at the point of exhaustion., Thei tragedy was relieved by the heroism of the beach inspector, Mr Jack Rankin, who, after rescuing tw'O, searched for the others. He had to be dragged forcibly from the water and needed medical attention.
