OHURA ROAD METALLING

WORK INTERRUPTER. DEPUTATION TO MEMBER EOR THE district. A deputation, of Whangamomona County ratepayers living on Ohura Road met Mr W. J. W*on, M.P., and discussed with him the matter of the metalling of Ohura Road. The spokesman, Mr M. P. Ford, pointed out that the metal for the work is lying in the yard and the plan for the work is made, hut the work has keen stopped with one mile of metajlM.g done and flour miles still to do. As a result the roadi except for the completed mile, is in a bad state. The road has been banked for the reception of metal and the banks are now holding water on the road. Mr Poison said he would discuss the matter with the Public Works engineer, but he knew that the Highways Board had overrun the constable and had been compelled to shorten sail. No doubt Ohura Road was one of the works affected. It was very unfortunate, but there were other roads on which the same thing had occurred. All he could do was to stress the importance of the road and the necessity of going on with the work now it is so far forward. If work was suspended now much work already done would have to be done over again when work was resumed. The Minister of Public Works could only make representations to the Highways Board and perhapjs he had already done that. However, the speaker would interview the proper authorities and if necessary interview the Highways Board at its next meeting. The Board had met just recently and probably there would be no further meeting till hirer viewed Mr P. Keller, the local Public Works Engineer, who was as anxious as the settlers to get the work done, but he had no authority from the Highways Board.
