DR. DERRICK’S ADDRESS
WORK FOR FEE-SCHOOL CHILD WELLINGTON, Oct; 3. Lady Hushing presided over the Annual Intbrim Conference of the Plunkor Society to-day, and after welcoming the delegates, the annual report tv as road by Mrs J. A. Johnstone, and the financial statement by Miss Hoddinott. Dr. T. Derrick, Medical Director of the Society, addressed the members, dealing with work among the older children. Ho said that, the Society might have some difficulties to face in this respect, but this particular campaign of education should bo carried on until'New Zealand children of school age were classed A.l. instead of C.J., to use a war-time expression. The work of the Society should not finish when the child was fifteen or eighteen minths old. He also mentioned the need for increase in the Society’s staff, financially, might prove a difficult problem. But he believed that the public would give the necessary support. Doctor Derrick stated that ho hoped shortly to have a circular dealing With the pre-school child sent to all branches. He also referred to the refresher course for midwives, which was to be held in Dunedin in ten days’ time.
