“THE OLD GENTLEMAN.” LONDON. Sir George Arthur,.- in his biography of the King, entitled “King George the Fifth: A Sketch of a
Great Ruler,” published by Jonathan Cape, reveals that members of the Royal bodyguard refer to hi 3 Majesty as “the old gentleman. “The King is one of us,” is an expression frequently heard in the bar-rack-room, according to the biography, and the troops regard him as a military chieftain rather than as the head of a political or constitutional state.
