Court Silling, The fortnightly sitting of the Stratford Court was held to-day liefore Mr R. W. Tate, S.M. In addition to. a fairly full list of police business four defended civil actions were listed for hearing. Alleged Speeding. It is understood that quite a number of northern motorists who visited the Star v. Opunake match at Eitham on Saturday will have to explain why they travelled through Stratford at an alleged excessive speed. j Defence Act Charges. R. T. F. Porter (Mr Moss) pleaded guilty at the Stratford Court thi s morning to charges under the Defence Act of failing to notify change of address and failing to render personal service. Warrant-Officer Rowe stated that defendant had attended very few parades , during the three years he had been on t(he strength. On each charge a fine of 20s was imposed, with costs 12/-.

A Danger Trail. A trail of orange peel along the sidewalk in part of Broadway this morning was responsible for several people having to make rather desperate endeavours to keep their balance and in one instance—a local business man—the efforts were not successful. Several of those whose feet slid on the peel made nasty remarks about the lack of consideraW tion displayed by the person who dropped it there, hut not one of them thought ,it worth while to kick any into the gutter, and so make the way safe for those who followed. Rogers (Mr Thomson) v. J. I Matthews, £6 4s, costs £1 5s Gd; E. G. Riddle (Mr Lawrence) v. J. M. Wood, 5s (balance), costs Ss; Joseph Winiki (Mr Coleman) v. R. L. Pepperell, £lO 7s, costs £2 14s.
