STILLETTO IN DITCH

A POSSIBLE BOYNE RELIC. FIND BY IRISH WORKMEN. Working at a ditch at Kingsgate, Dllleek County, Meath, Ireland, lately, Nicholas Connell found embedded in the soil a silver-handled and chased stilletto of beautiful workmanship. The scene of the find is in the direct line of King Jame' s retreat from the battle of Boyne in 1690. I'Kingsgate takes its name from the 'gate at which King James entered 'Duleek on his flight from Dublin. •The stilletto is thought to have been •lost in the hurry of the retreat. The haft is of silver, with an ivory inlay, and the curved blade is somewhat rusted and pagged, but still perfectly round and firmly attached to the baft. Scarcely seven in- ; ches long, the weapon is delicately 'designed and richly chased. 1 Mr Connell communicated bis find to Mr John O'Brien, a Drogheda engineer, who intends taking the dagger to the authorities of the National Museum, Dublin.
