Sales j during the week were effected at ' j the following prices; Extra heavy * I prime fat bullocks £lO, heavy fat I i bullocks £l3 to £l4, lighter sorts I £l2, heavy prime fat cows £ll to 1 £l2, fat cows £9 l')s to £lO 10s, light i and. unfinished £7 15s to £8 ss. Fat sheep.—A s with beef, prices I | under this heading are still firm, alI j though these ruling for swe mutton I I have easoa a little in comparison | | with tljase being obtained some few weeks ago. Fattener s prefer 1 I to sell their stock privately anti 1 our open markets are taertfpre practically devoid of any of this class, and butchers’ requirements are being largely filled through the medium of private treaty. Sale.-, during the week have been completed as follows: Heavy prime fat wethers £2, fat wethers 37s to 38s, light and unfinished 34s 6d to 365, prime heavy fat ewe s 28s to 29s 1 lighter sorts 26s t 0 21s. Store sheep—Quotations for the various classes under this heading are a little more plentiful than they | have been, although the numbers ! are, if anything, insufficient t 0 cope with the strong demand that is in evidence. There are a few small , Lots being submitted at our various c entres and naturally these are meeting with a ready sale at prices pleasing to vendors. Breeding ewes are alsjo being yaded in fair numbers, and altnough the prices offering by prospective purchasers are a little easier than those that were ruling some time back, vendors in most cases are meeting tne market and full clearances are be r ing effected. At the Dougla s sale on Monday last a good yarding of sheep was submitted and a total clearance under the hammer was effected at prices pleasing to vendors, quotations being as follows: Mixed age ewes in lamb to Romney ram s 30s Id, aged ewes in lamb to Romney rams 27s 3d to 2Ss 6d, good mixed age wethers 31s 9d, store 2 and 4-tooth wethers 295. These prices compare very favourably with those that have been ruling at our other centres, and also ihose that have been obtained for sales through the medium of private treaty. Sales of hoggets have been i [effected during the week as follows; j Sloo'd quality ewe hoggets up to 30s, others 27s to 28s, good mixed sex hoggets 27 s to 295, smaller sorts 24 to 25s 6d, best wether hoggets 26s to 2Ss, others 23s to 24s 6d. Store cattle. —The yardings of this class at our various fixtures are reI duced considerably compared with j the numbers that were coming forj ward for our various centres for | this period last year. There is unI doubtedly a shortages, of all classes in this (section;, and difficulty is being experienced in fulfilling regular requirements, resulting; t fn spirited competition being in evidence for any suitable classes that may be submitted to auction. Good framed young store cows for fattening purposes are in strong demand and, as only limited numbers , G f these are coming forward, prices j pleasing to vendors are the order \of the day. Male cattle are conj spicuous by their absence from the markets, and as there are few quotations being rereived, and in view of the strong demand, ready sales are being effected of the limited numbers offered. The prices at present ruling range as follow;- — Good coloured and good framed young store cows £5 10 s to £6 ss, ! mixed coloured sorts £4 to £4 10s, ; works cws £3 5s to £4 5, boners £2 to £3, good coloured forward i I conditioned three and four-year-old j bullock s £lO 10s t 0 £ll, best stores I £9 to £9 10s, poorer sorts £8 5s to £8 10s. Few, if any, of the younger clas are being quoted. Weaner j Jersey heifers are in strong demand, both locally and from outside dis- j tricts, and in view of the fact that supplies of good quality are | of a limited nature prices have a j tendency to harden. Very few top quality cattle are being submitted ! at our various fortnightly sales, j resulting in the medium classes be- j ing subject to spirited competition ( and selling at prices, if anything, in advances to those that were nil- 1 ing for this period last year. Sales have been effected during the week j as follow; Best quality fawns, in good condition, £7 to £7 10s, good j srts £6 t £6 10s, medium sorts £4 j j 15 s to £5 ss, small and mixed col- j

cured sorts £3 to £4. Dairy cattle.—There is still a strong demand for all classes in thig section, and good numbers are being submitted at our various fixtures. Strong benches of buyers are also in attendance and in practically every case keen competition is in evidence throughout, and satisfactory clearances are effected at. prices equal to late quotations. There is also a good demand for good quality in-calf heifers, and sales of these to both outside and local buyers are steadily being effected at late quotations. Pigs.—Good numbers of store and weaner pigs are coming forward to our various centres, and now that feed is becoming a little more plentiful, keen 'competition is In evidence throughout each sale, and full clearances are being effected at prices in advance to those v ontioned in our last repjort, prices ruling being as follow: — Large stores 30s to 325, smaller sort s 25s to 275, best s lips 20s to 225, choice weaners 15s to 17s, others 10s to 12s.
