AERO CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Mayor (MrT W, McMillan, presided at a meeting of the Aearo Club Committee held last night. .The chairmain said there seemed to"' be a gerieral opinion among residents that Stratford should abreast of the times in aenaj matters The first thing to do was to locate a suitable landing 'place, in view of some residents perhaps purchasing machines. If any machines were purchased it would be advisable to have an Aero Club. Months ago ,a person had told him of a ground, which was. said to be large enough to pHovide a 400hyard square land (tig place. What should be. dlonlj at present was to appoint & temporary secretary and set up a small committee to investigate in reference to landing-grounds and report to a further meeting. It was not necessary at the present moment elect a full set oi officers. Mr fl. B. Richards* thought thia procedure was correct. The committee should tour the district and present full details in reference to them, more particularly as regards area and the terms on which they could be acquired. There were probably suitable areas, but he was afraid that in man'y cases the money required would, be. beyond the means, of an Aero Club. He could see great difficulty in arranging .for a lauding ground, where there ■ were so maity dairy farms, subdivided by so many fences. In certain places if all the laud belonged to one person there might be. little difficulty in making arrangements for a ground. The chairman said the person who had spoken to him regarding his farm as a landing grouild had promised to: £ ive no cm ' D &v&r y possible help. Mr S. A. Ward! was appointed secretary pro tern. Messrs H. F. Fleming, H .Bishop, L. Wann and A. Graham were appointed try ■ the committee to investigate landing-grounds. They were! requested to report within a month.

Mr Bishop was electee! ; cbairmani of the committee. Messrs McMillan and Ward were* appointed to attend the conference! t 0 be held shortly on the*/ matter of formiiir a federation of "Taranahi Aero Clubs.
