OBITUARY
MRS MARIA ROBERTSON. j _ . Mrs Maria Robertson, whoso death occurred this morning, was the relict of the. late Mr Henry Robertson. She leaves daughters ar.'-l sons,, as follows: slr a Derby (Kopaki), -Mrs G. Sangstqr (Riverlea), Mrs T. Old ■ (Pukengiihu), Mrs Jones Qlahoo), Mirs Richards (Te Popp), Mrs Baker (Stratford,), Mr Henry Robertson (Opunakq), Mr Alex Robertson (.Stratford), and Mr Ernest Robertson (jStratford). She leaves 44 grand-': children. The late Mrs Robertson was born' in New Plymouth, in 1837. S'.u ( li.vdfl thore t\i'rougho*| tin) Macu;i war and had: many narrow escapes from being massacred by the natives. She removed to Midhirst when the place was all bush, the family carrying all their goods from Tnglewood to Denbigh lload on their backs. In addition -Mrs Robertson carried a baby oitf the journey. Mrs Robertson did a good deal of ha~d work in the early days in the way of undcrscrubbiug bush and bVe.d in any sort of a. hut of slabs. Her husband! predeceased her by seventeen years. It is interesting to notei that a sister of Mrs Robertsoii was stolen by thq Maoris, when eight years of age, fo r revenge during the, Maori war, and was missing so far ns her relatives were concerned until discovered at Whakatane twelve months ago. She bad married twice and has three married children. The funeral will leave the Mcthoaist Ohurch at 2 p.m. orl Monday for the Midhirst cemetery.
