THREAT TO TAXI MAN SHOOTING AFFRAY MELBOURNE UNDERWORLD ROW TWO MEN SHOT IN STREET. ONE LIKELY TO DIE. (Received) 9.15 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Another underworld row is stated to have caused a shooting aflray almost in the nature of a pitched battle in Richmond.
Herbert Maher (36) and Thomas nxoran (35) were admitted to hospital with bullet wounds. The latter had part of his face blown away and is not likely to recover. It is stated that four men and two women drove up in ai car and bred at two Maher brothers. One was liit 5 but the other grabbled) the shot gnu from Iris brother and fired point- blank at one of the attackers wounding him in the face. The attackers then, fled in a taxi with the injured man. The woman is stated to have tojld the driven' of the taxi that if lie told the police anything she would slit his throat. —Australian Tress Assn.
