PENALTIES TO BE INCREASED
PROHIBITION, violation. JONES BILL PASSED. WELLING TONE Feb. IT After four clays of the unusually frank debate on prohibition, the Senate passed the Jones Bill, increasing the maximum penalties under the Moisted Act to five years’ imprisonment and a 10,000 dollar fine. Tho Bill was amended to provide for Federal Courts imposing sentences iff distinguish between casual violators and professional bootleggers. The Bill now goes to the House, where the leaders say it"will be passed speedily. Senator Jones, the Bill’s author, said it was designed to reach the rich bootleggers who were? now escaping with light lines and brief terms.
