TARANAKI STOCK MARKET. Messrs Newton King Ltd.'s market report for the week ending Saturday, February 16, 1929, is as follows :

B«ef. —Good numbers of both cow and heifer beef are still coming forward to our various centres and full clearances are being effected at prices equal to those quoted in our last report. Vendlors of ox beef prefer to dispose of their stock in the paddock and, through this medium, sales are steadily being effected at rates on n par with late quotations.

Fat sheep.—Since our last report little, jf any, change has taken place in this section, except for the fact that the works price for lambs has been reduced a further farthing. How.ever, sales at the reduced price are being steadily effected. ~Xs with o* beef, vendors of fat sheep prefer to dispose of their fats through the mod. ium of private treaty. Sales of the bigger lines or wether and. ewe mutton are be.ng steadily effected to works buyers, while butchers are not experiencing any difficulty in fulfilling their requirements from the smaller lines offerng. The prices ruling in each case aire on a par with late quotations. However, with the number of requirements that are being submitted a,tj om< usual stock sales have a tendency to ease a little, but not to any great ex. tent. We have to report having held a very successful fair at Aria, on Monday last, when approximately 5000 sheep were submitted audi a full clearance was affected under spirit. ed competition. Store cattle.—The market for all classes in this section remains steady and. full clearances arc being effected at o"r Tarious centres at prices equal to those mentioned in our last report. The yardings at ou r various centres are* practically devoid of male cattl" and, with th'iu fact in evidence, the small numbers of stor© and forward cows tlvit are coming forward are subject to spirited competition. Small numbers of weaner Jersey heifers are now coming forward to the open market and are changing hands at prices a little in advance of those offering for this class during the correspond, ing period last year. A good- inquiry also exists for good quality .cattle from outside districts, and ) requirments through the medium of private treaty are steadily being effected at prices ranging from £4 10s to* £5 10s, the latter figure being given for top quality cattle.

Dairy cattle.— During the past week a few small Iot 3 of in-calf Jersey and Jersey-dross iheitYjrs- ITavo been submitted at our various centres. Cattle possessing quality are meeting with a ready sale at from £9 to £9 10s. while the small and mixed coloured sorts 'are changing hands at from £7 to £B. A number or inquiries from outside districts are being fulfilled through padc'iock sales, at prices ranging from £8 10s to £lO.
