COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Strutford County Council was held on Saturday, when there were present: Ors T. 11. Anderson (chairman), S. Pitt, W. Vickers, T. T. Murray, W. H. Were, J. Jacobson, J. O'Neill, and H. C. Taylor. Leave of absence was granted bo Or, J. T. Belcher, who is out of town. DRAIN CLEANING.

The Engineer- said it had previously been decided not to press the.stj settlers till the present month. It was decided, to serve jthe necessary'notices, the Council £> do the work if the settlers did not. Similar action was decided on in regard to an application by P, 0. MeGumness, South Hiding.

WGATIMABU RIDING.

R. Mounsey, Purangi, wrote drawing attention to the fact that the Gazette notice regarding the merger of the Ngatimaru Riding in Stratford. County drew the. boundary line on the north side, of the Tarawa! Road, which was across tho Waitara River, and had always been in the Uruti Riding. Tho petition bad also asked that section 1, Upper "Waitara, he retained in Ngatiinaru Riding. Previously Uruti and Ngatimaru Ridings contributed equally towards, t'io cost of the low-level bridge which connected the two Ridings. This bridge is of most importance to Uruti Riding settlors, as it brought thern within six miles of a saleyard andj twelve, miles of a railway siding. The writer could not imagine why Ngatiinaru Hiding bad been saddled with the bridge. ns the Ngatimam vahition was £82.000 and tho Uruti valuation .-£IBI,OOO, Uruti Riding being also rated much lower. Tho Engineer said that where the Ngatiinaru Riding joined, the Inglewood County the centre of the. river was made the boundary, but where it joined the Clifton County the far bank of tho river was made tho boundary. The usual practice was for tho centre) of a. river to he theboundary. Tho Idler was received.

broke Road previous to the raisng of the loan. The Engineer was instructed to inspect the Makuri Stream, and, it cleaning out has not been done by settlers, to call for tenders for the work. Similar action will be taken as regards a section on the Mohakau Stream. As the next regular meeting day falls-oil March 16th, on which day St. Patrick's Day is being observed, the Council will meet on the 23rd. Authority was given for tho purchase of a new motor truck for tho South Riding. Accounts amounting ,to £3223 ,r » sv 7d were passed for payment.
