FIRE AT GILBERT ISLANDS.

SYDNEY, February 15

The last of the fleet of barquentints trading between Sydney and the S|)(uth Seas, the steel yjessel A,lexa, registered at Wellington, was burned f'o the water’s edge and beached at Butaritari, Gilbert Islands.

Advice has been received in Sydney that the fire occurred yesterday and swept the Alexa from stem \c stern, but the crew of 11 and the master, Captain Heyden, are all safe.
