Deem and Smith, of the Agricultural Department, it has been decided that eggs of the. ragwort moth shall be placed on the farm of Mr. Hooker, Croydon Road. A start will Jie made to-day with putting the eggs out, and it is expected that the whole will be put •nut in the course of a. few days, as they! become ripe, Mr Hooker’s farm is the only centre for the eggs in Taranaki so far, hut if the eggs hatch well other centres will he formed.; By confining the eggs to one centre it is possible for the department's officers to easily watch their progress, and for residents to make reports. A. 0, Oowper, instructor to the Auckland Aero Club, landed on tho Hawera racecourse at G p.m. yesterday, after a Right from Christchurch in one of the new slot-ted-wing Moth aeroplanes, which afford a pronounced improvement in Internal control and give greater security in landing, through the low speed made possible. It was Major Gowper’s intention to complete the journey to Auckland yesterday, but owing to fogs and rain a forced landing was necessary near Ivaikoura, a stop of three hours being made there.
