THE MORRIS MINOR

NEW LIGHT CAR, Besides being distinctly pleasing in appearance, (tire new Morris Min'dr car is essentially a production designed for service. In following .the latest demand for cars, the designers have managed to con-

vey an impression of power within the neat lines of the tourer model now on view in the garage of Messrs Newton King, Ltd..

An advantage that will undoubtedly be appreciated is the adequate legroom provided in both front and back seats. Yesterday a fairly tall man sat at the driver’s wheel and found that his knees were well Ydear of steering mechanism, (and igear and brake levers. The hack seat is even m'ore roomy and two big men may sit there without any discomfort through cramping. These features have been made possible not only by putting special wells in the lloor, but by slightly increasing the dimensions in comparison with other cars of this class. Thus there is a wheel-base of 6feet 6 in-

ches and a track of 3feejt 6 inches. In producing this little English car Mr W. R. Morris has really made a smaller counterpart of the machines he has previously been manufacturing. It is typically a Morris, and while it incorporates certain features of design that make for unusual economy, handiness and com-

fort 1 , it is, first and laslu, a conveniently tested lay-out with no freakish points. Iu other words it is a true motor-car, with all the fine features that have made Morris cars so popular and reliable in the pas'd The equipment includes an overhead valve 8-h.p. engine, fourwheel brakes, cleverly designed fourseater body, electric horn and automatic windscreen wiper.

Its performance is another outstanding example of Morris value. The makers say that the normal consumption rate is a gallon of petrol for 45 miles, but, as a mattei of fact, it is capable of going very much further than that on a similar quantity.

The roomy body is provided with g large door on each side, permitting effortless entry, and access to the rear seats is facilitated by folding front seats of the bucket type, capable of adjustment for “reach.” All-weatther protection is provided by a metal-framed hood and rigid sidescreens. Semi-elliptic •springs are litted fore and aft, these giving the maximum comfort with adequate strength for all, normal Toad conditions. The suspension system is designed far the complete car to carry a maximum load of 4|cwt. Shock absorbers are fitted to both the front and rear axles and bumpers are provided fore and aft. x
