NORTH ISLAND TOURNEY. Entries for the North Island croquet tournament, which opened at New Plymouth yesterday, totalled 254, players coming from all parts of New Zealand from as far south as Nelson, while Australia was represented hy several entries. The first round of the handicap doubles was/ completed yesterday, and a commencement was made with the second round. Despite a late start, good progress was made, the tally for the day .being 17 matches distributed over the lawns of the New Plymouth (headquarters), Central and Fitzroy clubs. Other sections to be decided are the handicap singles, championship doubles, ladies'l championship (played on the two life system) ami the open chainpionfchfp (two out of three games all through).
