TIME FOR DEVELOPMENT.

REPRESENTATIONS TO GOY-

HAMILTON, January 12

At a meeting of the Swamp Development League yesterday, the chairman, Mr A. M. Bisiey, said the present time was favourable for pressing for the development, of the extensive Woodlands swamp, northeast of Hamilton, as the new Government was seeking the best opportunities for land settlement. The scheme, if undertaken, would be the beginning of the development of the swamp area in the vicinity of Hamilton totalling about 80,000 acres. A Government report prepared some years ago favoured the Woodlands scheme

Mr N. G. Grobble said ho had interviewed the Minister and Undersecretary of Lands and various officials, and found that all were favourable. The Under-Secretary bad sa~*tl that it was the best proposition on his books.

The meeting resolved to make urgent representations to the Government and local bodies for the immediate development of this area.
