FROM “POST” SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. HUIROA.

On Friday afternoon last the annual picnic and sports, in connection with the local school took place. There was quite a largo attendance of parents and friends of the scholars, especially of the ladies. Owing to pressure of work on the farms many of the male members of the community were unable to attend during the afternoon, but made up for their emissions in this respect by attending in full foico, the dance in the evening. The committee provided several cases of fruit, soft drinks, lollies and an abundance of tea, and a.s the afternoon proved to be very warm, full justice was done to the good things provided, by both the youngsters and adults. During the afternoon a short sports programme was provided for the children. The following assisted in conducting the sports; Mr L. B. Bichcno, the teacher, and Messrs A. F. Taylor, Martin and Woods. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by all, and the children entered into various contests and games with surprising zest considering the warmth of the afternoon.

There was a good attendance a a the bachelors* dance held last Friday evening. Miss Wilmjjlmrst at the piano, supplied t-ho dance music hi her usual yo«il style. Extras were played by Misses Bray and Wallace (Douglas), Messrs 0. Wallace and O. Banning won* most efficient as joint M.’sC.

The committoo provided a most enjoyable supper wiiich wag handed round. After supper* dancing was resumed and kept going until the early hours of tln> morning, and all seemed to ho enjoying themselves Amongst those present were: Mrs Bicjre.no, Mrs Bray, Mrs Stanford, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Mitchell, and Mrs Frazer, and the Misses Bicheno, Bray, VoTght (Kiore), Running (Midhirst), Wallace (2), Stanford, Blair, Ford, Rogers, AVallace (Douglas).

PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs Blair and family have returned homo after spending a long holiday in Takanini. Mrs Pepporill is at present on a visit to her sister,’ "Mrs Ritchie. Miss oyco Taylor has returned home after spending an enjoyable holiday with friends in OeTlington. Mrs White, New Plymouth, is at •present no a visit to her daughter, Mrs Maekay.. Miss Isabelle Running, Midhirst, has returned home after spending a few days with friends hero. TOKO, Mr, and Airs. Mitchell are at present on a holiday in Waikato. Mr. ,T. Kilpatrick, who has been a resident of Toko for 22 years, is to be transferred to Palmerston North. Mr. Boyce, of Toko Road, is an inmate of the Stratford Hospital with al broken jaw, caused by an accident with a hay-sweep. Arrangements are being made in conjunction with the East Line Picnic to New Plymouth on Friday, February 15. Tickets can be obtained from the schoolmaster. The train leaves Toko at 9.35 a.m. and New Plymouth at 4 p.m. Toko residents are miked to travel in the carriages reserved for them.
