There was an imposing spectacle *ait St, Peter’s for what was jiominally ,the seventh anniversary of th® coronation of the p °P e - but whicb was converted into a solemn thanksgiving for peace to Italy. Despite the rain a huge crowd watched for hours for the Pope’s appearance on the balcony. His Holiness had a tumultuous reception, and it is estimated a hundred thousand received the Benediction. '• As he raised his hand for the third time, the crowd stdod up anjd cheered frenzidly. It was the third time since 1870 that there had been a public Benediction. Another outstanding incident was that It was the first time for sixty years that uniformed military officials entered the Basilica to participate in Mass.—Australian _ Press Assn.
