The meeting of thja Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday had before it some notes forwarded by the Minister of Defence; which had been pre* pared for the general infoirma.fion of public bodies interested in £h*e establishment of aerodromes for civil aviu ation purpose's. Following are seme therefrom:

The necessity for civil aerodromes. or airports is apparent on account of the increasing public and private interest being taken in civil "aviation. With the increase of air traffic, cities and municipalities without aerodrome's will find themselves in a similar position %o coastal" towns, which, are without well-equipped and sheltered harbours. Towns with good landing grounds will attract air traffic. There .can be* no doußt tltyilt many fowns will shortly have their own private and commercial owners of aircraft, which"will require to b§_serViced similarly to other mediums ol -transport. The ftfst any place obviously needy, some degree of aerodrome facilities. Generally speaking, an aerodrome should be large enough for absolute safety of Operation, easy of apptroaoli__tfWoni all directions, and within reach of the centre to be served.. it_shonld be planned to provide for future increase in commercial air activities. At first the T*"jnicipaT nangar_a,.may be available for housing private planes and pus3o transport .machines. Later, should traffic become too heavy, the. municipal airport may become a place for the mere on and discharging of passengers, mail, and freight, the maoFmes, after unloading, being flown to'other grounds on the outskirts of the city, wher© they would b© serviced and lieldi'until required for ©e return journey. The present absence" of air activities should not deter any public body from preparing for air traffic*. Even the provision of the first_reauisite—a malrked operattimgjalr'eal, • is someth/ine, and improvement can be made as circumstances warrant.
