I NOTES BY "PAPERMONEY."

Five was a very lucky number at the Egmont meeting yesterday. Number 5 paid a dividend in every race except the third race, the Tokaora Hack Handicap. Horses carrying number 5 cloth won live races and two seconds. xx x x Reremoana was the hottest favourite on Thursday to get beat. He ran a good race, but the big weight (lOst) seemed t'oo much for him. He was last with Keddar when the straight was reached, and with Keddar put in a great run up the straight to get third. XX X X Keddar was a bit! unlucky in the Flying Handicap. He did not get a good start and was last when the straight was reached, and did well to get second to Lady Quex. XX X X Bright Glow ran a good race in the Egmont Cup, and only just failed ever the last bit. She was in front at the outside stand. XX X s On his Wellington form Knightlike was sent out a good favourite for the Tokaora Hack Handicap, and the brown colt won easily. XX X X Ycma put in one of the greatest runs seen on the Hawera course for many a day when he won the Cup. He was last when they turned into the straight, -and then he seemed to fly over the ground and got up in time to win by a neck. XX X X Rapine looked big when he went out to contest the Egmont Cup yesterday. The race will do him a lot of good, and looks like being hard over the long distance races before the season closes. XXX X Ccol'mint ran his best race to date when he won the Waipapa Hack Handicap yesterday. Morris had him in the picture all the way. Coolmint looks like winning again soon. TARANAKI 3OGIO.EY CLUB. ACCEPTANCES TO-NIGHT. Acceptances for all events on the first day's programme of the Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting close with Ihe secretary, Mr E. P. Webster, New Plymouth, at 9 o'clock to-night.

lIAWEKA RACES. There was a good attendance at Hawera yesterday for the opening of the Egmont Racing Club's meeting, when good iieids and interesting races were the order of the day. The public were in speculative mood, and despite the fact] that winners were so well concealed that 'only two first favourites passed the judge first, the totalisator staff, under Mr W- Callaghan, wore given a very busy time. Inverstlments were well maintained, totalling £22,357 10s, as compared with £22,592 for the first day last year.
