She entered the water at 12.21 but owing to. coldness gave up at 1.18. She returned to Wellington by launch. THE DECIDING FACTOB.

No amount of hi\ t>r igrease, will keep, that cold out and cold wTU prevent the Strait being swum. conditions otherwise were perfect last night, and I am confident the distance would not have beaten mo.. It was only the coldness of the water that beat me and I think it wj.ll l beat any other swimmer w?ik> Attempts ths feat."'
