otrs and expressing gratification, at the number of entries from other parts of Taranaki. He tiien called upon Mil T. Kirkwciod, vice-president of tho olub, to formally open the baths.

Mr K'irkwood also expressed grat. ification at the number of onlookers and the number of entries. He remarked on the increasing popularity of swimming in New Zealand saying that there was no better sport. He congratulated Mr Moss on the lighting arrangements. The water polo match between Fitzroy and Ingjlowood was a great feature of the programme and madia a worthy finish, to a good carnival.

Much amusement was caused during the diving contest by some swimmers who were out for some fun audi, bega.n taking somo weird unorthodox dives.

Keenly contested (tfaees and finishes evidenced good handicapping and tho handienppefs are deserving of praise in the Avay they handled this important part of tho programme. The carnival was an. undoubted success there being about 500 with the takings showing a profit of about £ls. Details arc: —
