NEW ZEALAND POLICE FORCE
"ONE OF THE FINEST IN THE WORLD." Tributes to the efficiency of members of the New Zealand Police Force and the assistance he had always received from them during his career on the Bench were paid by Mr. W, G. Riddell, S.M., when speaking at the farewell, gathering arranged in his honour by the Wellington Law Society in the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Two members of the force who were in office on his arrival in Wellington, said the retiring magistrate, were the late Commissioner O'Donovan, who at that time was Sub-Inspector, and Mr. J. A. M'Grath, who wais acting as chief detective and who later became superintendent. "In my opinion," said Mr. Riddell, "those two men were the best pair of police officers in New Zealand. They set a high standard, and that standard has been followed by succeeding officers. I have great regard for the police force, mid think the citizens of New Zealand have one of the finest forces in the world.''
