The damage caused by last week’s big lire at Wellington—the largest conllagation witness in the Capital City in twenty-live years—has been estimated at a quarter of a million sterling. An excellent idea of the extent of the damage and the fierceness with which the Haines consumed half a city block is conveyed by the extensive series of photographs of the outbreak which is the outstanding feature of the pictorial section of this week’s issue of the “New Zealand Free Lance. Sporting enthusiasts are, particularly well catered for in the current issue, and many readers will preserve as a souvenir of the 'first cricket test match at Brisbane between England arid Australia., the pictures of the players who are faking part in this match. There are also a number of interesting snapshots of last week’s racing at Takapuna, Feilding and Porbury Park.
