An acetylene tank exploded with ai terrific roar in the suburb of Newrtown,, destroying , a two storey shop.: Pieces of, the cylinder were thrown through the walls of . the adjoining premises,and a .large stack of jtim-' her was blown up and the , pieced thrown hundreds of yards away. House© within a radius of a mile were shaken. There was no one on the. premise?, hpt many pe,ople had narrow escapes.
The fire brigade quickly extinguished the fire, which broke out. The premises are -.those of IX Reid, and Sons, plumbers. —Australian P.A.
